This website contains a digital version of the register of inhabitants of Copenhagen which was kept by the police from 1890 to 1923. A forerunner of the “Folkeregistret” (national register), the register is the first central registration of the entire population of Copenhagen. There is a total of 1.2 million records.
Politietsregisterblade.dk is maintained by The Copenhagen City Archive (Københavns Stadsarkiv). The purpose of the site is, first, to give genealogists or others interested in searching for persons who lived in Copenhagen during the specific period access to the register. Second, the purpose is to transcribe all the information in the records by involving volunteers.
All the records will be made available on the site continually. About every two months the register of a new police station or the equivalent of approximately 100.000 records will be made available. You can see the number of records that are currently available here.
Find a relative
If you wish to find a person you can choose the search function. But since not all persons have been registered it may be necessary to go through the register manually. You can read more about the records and their sequence and about how to find the persons in them here.
Participate in the registration
If you wish to contribute to the registration of the persons in the register you must become a user first. You can do this by clicking here. When you have been registered as a user you can log in and start the registration. Before you begin it is a good idea to read the instructions.
